A new semester

So I have just completed my first week back to uni for semester 2 of second year! Was lovely to get back to normal lectures after the stress of examinations.

This Semester I have chosen Digital Photography and Eco Design as my electives. Both of which I am very excited about as they definitely areas that I have had a previous interest in.

My first Digital Photography lecture began with this image:

Raising of the Flag at Iwo Jima.

This photograph is incredibly famous as it was reproduced in massive quantities in thousands of different publications and may be the most reproduced photograph in history.

Waves Project

For the past Semester I have been working on a project about natural patterns with an emphasis on waves.

The concept is; a moment in time captured in paint.

Going back to one of my previous posts about transience and transcendence, you can perhaps see how this was the basis for this project.

Ok so below are some pictures of the pieces that I did. Two of them were large scale and one a series of small panels.

By Victoria Richards. Large scale, roughly 1.5 meter by 2 meters

By Victoria Richards. Small scale detailed series

Just finished! By Victoria Richards, Larger scale; 1 meter by 2.5 meters

Exhibition at Leeds University

At the end of the Semester the second and third year Art and Design students put on an exhibition of their work for the public (mainly family and friends) to enjoy. Below are a few of the pieces which I found to be interesting and worth commenting on. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

If you want to see more of the work that was displayed please feel free to visit my Flickr page under the name Vicky Black DESN. Enjoy!

by 2nd Year Art & Design student Daniel Fischer
I found Mr Fischer's poster to be one of the highlights of the show. Both flawlessly executed and hilarious they proved to be most popular.

by 2nd Year Art & Design student Ruth Spencer

This piece was in fact a much larger piece with several bright red acrylic structures arranged in a sand pit. What I found to be most interesting about this piece was the acrylic writing shown here and how people engage with it. I think it is the people that make the piece.

By 3rd Year Art & Design Student Manny Teh

Pieces by Manny Teh were the talk of the second year students before and after the show. There seemed to be something about the colourful blocks of colour and complex geometrical patterns, which drew people to the art. As the painting where such large scale and I managed to only bring a macro lens for my camera, this photo only shows the painting at an angle.

Finally a photo within a photo. One taken by myself and one by the ladies in the photo. Namely Claire Thornewill and Erin McGreevy. I just thought that it was rather intriguing but hey what do you think?

Snow Snow Snow

This December I've had an awful time with all the wintery weather! As usual many of the airport in the UK were closed due to 'record breaking snow fall' and caused travellers grief.

However as always there is a positive side to all the snow! It's beautiful. So I spent my time when trapped in cold and icy Leeds, photographing some of the stunning shapes and colours only ever seen in the winter.

Below are just a few of the photos that I took. The others can be found on Flickr if you just search for Vicky Black DESN you should find me! I hope you enjoy and there should be more photos up soon.
